Casa Luigi, Tuscany, Italy Vacation Rental
Casa Luigi is a luxury vacation rental in Tuscany overlooking the beautiful hillscape south of Siena. Designed by the renowned Siennese architect Baldassare Peruzzi at the beginning of the 16th century, it sits proudly on a hilltop surveying the astonishingly beautiful hillscape south of Siena with views onto the Mount Amiata and the hilltop town of Montalcino. On a clear day, from the highest point on the estate, the towers of Siena can be seen glistening in the sunlight. The villa has recently undergone a complete restoration to create a contemporary country manor house.
Within the extensive grounds, you will find a spectacular travertine infinity pool, a tennis court, a gym, an outdoor kitchen, expansive terraces in addition to secluded places nestled within the professionally designed gardens. Casa Luigi's location is ideally positioned for you to experience the beauty, culture, wine and gastronomy of Southern Tuscany. The medieval walled-town of Buonconvento with its restaurants and bars, shops selling local produce as well as a supermarket and railway station, is a short seven minute drive. Montalcino and its famous Brunello vineyards is just 15 minutes away, whilst Siena and the hilltop towns of Pienza and San Quirico d’Orcia, and the thermal baths at Bagno di Vignone are all accessible within 30 minutes.
The magnificent travertine pool with an infinity-edge overlooks the private lake below Casa Luigi, with far-reaching views across to the Crete Senesi and Val D’Orcia. The expansive terrace is furnished with sun-loungers and parasols to provide shade from the hot Tuscan summer sun, whilst the bathroom beneath the pool houses a large rainfall shower for cooling down. Adjacent to the pool terrace is a lounge area with a pergola and comfortable seating for those who prefer a bit more shade. The exceptional external kitchen is equipped with everything you will need to rustle up a poolside lunch or gourmet sunset dinner including a Forno (pizza oven) and gas-fired barbeque, two-ring burner, dishwasher, fridge and ice-maker. At night, the lighting, candles and fire-pits turns the pool terrace into a magical place to dine, enjoy an aperitivo, or simply gaze at the stars.
The gardens at Casa Luigi have been lovingly created to compliment the layout of the Estate and the local landscape of undulating hills, Cypresses and Holm Oaks. Numerous seating areas have been created within the gardens to provide ample opportunity to enjoy the panoramic views. At the front of the Villa the more formal Italian garden, planted with buxus, roses and rosemary echoes the symmetry of the architecture. Around the pool and outer edges of the garden, the planting creates a sense of fusion between the garden and the natural landscape. To the west of the Estate an olive grove has been established and to the rear of the Villa, you will find Casa Luigi’s very own vegetable garden. The hand crafted wrought iron gazebo, designed and produced by Biagiotti of Pienza, provides a unique space to relax amongst the formal Italian garden taking in the panoramic views. The terrace between the ‘A wing’ and the pool is complimented by more exotic planting, whilst the lawn provides an opportunity for a game of croquet. Of course, an Italian garden would not be complete without it’s very own Bocce Court.
As the birthplace of the Renaissance, Tuscany provides countless possibilities for exploring the culture, art and history of the region. If you want to avoid the tourist throngs in the larger towns and cities, we can also recommend trips to smaller and less-visited places. Mediaeval fortress towns, Romanesque churches, Renaissance palazzi and paintings of the Sienese school can all be found within a short distance of Casa Luigi. The beautiful and historically significant abbeys of Santa Maria di Monte Oliveto Maggiore and Sant’Antimo are 15 and 20 minutes drive, whilst the Abbazia di San Galgano is just under an hour’s drive. Guided tours can be arranged, or you can simply pick up a guide-book from our library and see where the day takes you.
