Chalet Fifteen, Jackson, Wyoming Vacation Rental
Chalet Fifteen is a modern, private home on the grounds of the famed Amangani Hotel. Like all Amangani buildings, it is a magnificent, architectural translation of the land around it. And like all Amangani homes, guests of Chalet Fifteen can partake of all the hotel has to offer, from housekeeping and room service to the long, outdoor, heated pool and sumptuous spa. Inside Chalet Fifteen, the living, kitchen and dining areas all share one big, airy space, centered by a high, stone fireplace and ringed by a wide, wrap-around terrace.
Clean lines, serene earth tones and exquisite quality are the hallmarks here; massive, floor-to-ceiling windows open the interiors to the great outdoors. The wide, stone deck has the weighty proportions of ancient Mayan design, and looks out over the endless valley to the Grand Tetons. The splendor of the view is echoed inside, where each of the four bedrooms has an overarching air of spaciousness and quiet.
Glass, wood, and stone are the building blocks of Chalet Fifteen; and the pleasing, sturdy simplicity of these materials is balanced by soft, rich fabrics, warm lighting and many luxuries. A fully stocked bar, a large, comfortable media room, and a big flat-screen TV are among the many indulgences. A sense of Western expansiveness is enhanced by the huge windows and the Western art and artifacts on the walls.
Four king bedrooms, spare but supremely comfortable, have wood-burning fireplaces, and the luxurious bathrooms have deep soaking tubs with mesmerizing views of their own. This is a hospitable house, uncluttered and welcoming; well-suited for families or groups of friends. Eleven can comfortably sleep here - for besides the four traditional bedrooms, there is a sleeping loft with three twin beds.
The house is spacious and comfortable, and seems built of the land around it - wood beams and sandstone floors, great swaths of glass, and stone fireplaces. Massive stone pillars support a glowing redwood and glass upper story, and the roof's angle echoes the high mountains beyond. Everything at Chalet Fifteen feels fundamental, necessary. One room leads into another, a calm and ordered continuation of spaces - designed so that inhabitants feel enfolded but free.
The heavy front door separates the house from the great Wyoming landscape and hints at the comfort within, but on the other side of Chalet Fifteen, grand terraces are a handshake between the house and the land; each embraces the other. A barbeque, hot tub, and Zen meditation garden are places, like the stone decks, where the indoor pleasures move outside.
Set into a rolling, sage-covered hillside, the house gazes out to the magnificent mountains. Stars confetti the night sky overhead; in the morning, the long valley fills up with lemony light. Moose, bear, wolves, bison and eagles all are frequent visitors to the great wilderness below the Amangani Hotel; and yet Jackson and the country's best skiing are just minutes down the road. Chalet Fifteen is a perfect, private place in which to experience it all - the panorama of Wyoming, the services of the hotel, the conviviality of Jackson, and the peace of one's own home.
