Villa Aphrodite, Lake Como, Italy Vacation Rental
Immerse yourself in the traditional Italian way of living by staying in this historic villa on Lake Como.
This very romantic Villa stands on the promontory known as Puncia and is famous because of the many scholars who once lived there, either as owners or guests. The building dates back to the seventh hundreds but it was modified in the eighteen hundreds. It belonged to the family of Cesare Beccaria, who in 1764 wrote the popular book, “Dei Delitti e Delle Pene”, then it passed to Cesare Cantu and to his daughter Rachele, who is a famous Italian painter and founder of a salon.
The villa is directly situated by the lakeside and directly opposite to the only island in the lake, 'Isola Comacina'.
The villa is arranged on three floors - furnished with elegance and authentic Italian design. There are 6 bedrooms with in total 11 beds but the owner has limited the maximum number of guest on 8. . On the ground floor there are two spacious living rooms with ornate ceiling Fresco's and antique furnishings which all add to the ambiance of the historical period.
The seperate dining room is the perfect place to entertain and can accommate up the fifteen people. (An Italian chef can be available by request - please enquire with our booking department).
Surrounding this wonderful, luxurious villa is a huge lakeside garden where you can enjoy a perfect 'al fresco' meal or glass of wine while enjoying the tranquility of the surroundings.
Across from the village of Sala Comacina is Isola Comacina, only accessable by boat. Setting foot on the only island on Lake Como and is a stirring experience in all seasons, even in the mists of autumn or under the rain. The scenery is bewitching at every time of the year. In the midst of an ancient setting on the shores of Spurano, among the picturesque fishermen's houses, the small Romanesque style church of S. Giacomo stands out and, a few steps away, next to the bell tower, you will find Santa Maria Maddalena. The place is rich in history, art, tradition and memories whose architectures and remains defy the passing of time.
There is so much to discover among the secluded corners and the open views; an aura of mystery lingers on the history of the Island, its inhabitants, the churches and the buildings which were once there in great numbers and then destroyed by the soldiers of the great Como army.
Once landed, you will receive a warm welcome by the "Oste" (an old fashioned word for "owner of a pub", this is the way Benvenuto Puricelli, the current owner, likes to call himself). After a tour of the Island, which will take no more than one hour, stop over at the bar "La Botte" for a cool drink before getting back to the Locanda where you will enjoy the pleasure of sharing a rich meal while being waited on in a faultless way by the attentive staff.
