At the midpoint of the Great Ocean Road in coastal Victoria, Australia, rising up from the Southern Ocean, is the perfect location to escape to.  Some 2 ½ hour’s drive from Melbourne’s Tullamarine airport, it is here that we find Moonlight Head Private Lodges, a magical combination of privacy, tranquillity and luxury in total harmony with nature. Moonlight Head, is a remote retreat hidden amongst tracts of mature Eucalypts which make up the Australian bush. The Lodge provides accommodation for up to eight people to enjoy.  

 

Set against a backdrop of the ocean and the many greens that make up the Australian bush, the House of some 260m2, at Moonlight Head has been designed by the acclaimed recipient of the Pritzker Prize, the Australian Architect Glenn Murcutt.  

 

The Architect has drawn from the Modernist school of Architecture in designing this collection of Houses though the Scandinavian influence on Murcutt’s work is also evident. The House is remote, set in over forty hectares of Australian bush and farmland where often it is just you and the kangaroos  The ambience filling each room is created from modern pieces of furniture, antique Persian rugs thrown over blue stone floors. Understated European chic is the key to the décor, with furniture from B&B Italia, Cassina, Poltrona Frau and Savoir beds all complemented with lighting from Artemide. This is all set against perfect white walls that spread the abundance of sunshine and moonlight throughout the lodge.

 

Fabulous bluestone bathrooms are equipped with the softest of towels   complement a swimming pool sized bath to soak in whilst gazing towards the southern night sky. 

 

Your time is influenced by your pace. Active days, hiking the Great Ocean Walk, fishing on a private lake, playing a round of golf , horseback riding through  the bush,  or exploring the historic wilderness on a mountain bike are some  of the experiences offered. Though of course sitting in with a good book or movie, watching the coastal traders pass by is also an option in this unique home that is yours to enjoy for the time you are resident.
