Most people who think if Steamboat Springs must image at some point, maybe way back, there were steamboats or maybe a manufacturer of steamboats, yet none of these is true. Steamboat Springs was named for the eerie looking steam coming down the river that really did resemble a steamboat of the era. However they later found out it was nothing but steam from the natural springs and not from any Ghost Ship. So for that reason, they named it. It’s a funny story but the location itself is more reminiscent of a lovely and truly activity diverse, athletic playground.
Steamboat Springs offers the visitors much more than skiing, but the skiing itself is quite amazing. It has hosted World Class skiing competitions and has been known as a great location for those looking for Challenging Slopes. Truly a nice change from the hustle and bustle of some of the other Ski Resorts, Steamboat Remains very busy but not over the top. This makes for great skiing and enjoyment for the entire family. In addition to skiing, you can enjoy the fantastic River Activities, including but not limited to: Kayaking, Fishing, Swimming, White Water Rafting and Tubing. So don’t miss out on all the fun year round.
For those more romantic nights, the Yampa Valley offers those looking for something calming and relaxing, the ability to reach for the stars. This area is so natural and breathtaking that it’s said the stars seem to be in HD, just for them. Truly a sight to see!
Arriving at Steamboat Springs you have two choices, you can come into the Steamboat/Hayden Regional Airport which is about 25 miles away or you can fly into Denver International Airport which is about 156 miles away or just shy of 2 hours. If you don’t mind the connection, the Hayden is a great choice.
