Arc de Triomphe Splendour, 16th district, Paris, France Vacation Rental
When only the best will do, the finest address with the ideal view, the most elegant apartment filled with artworks from around the world, when it must be champagne and caviar, when you must have excellence in all, this is the apartment for you. Here the discreet charm of the bourgeoisie is alive and well. A generous, wide entrance hallway sets the tone for the whole apartment, leading to the main reception room, beautifully furnished with a mix of art deco and contemporary pieces set on the superb patterned parquet wood floors. Original plasterwork ceilings, marble fireplaces, full height floor-to-ceiling windows flood each of the large rooms with light and open views across Etoile – a living movie backdrop. There is a separate formal dining room complete with a marble fireplace and space for a large party. There is a grand piano. The elegant grey painted fitted kitchen has everything you need. A separate sitting room offers yet more treasures, antique lamps, sculptures and artworks. The three large double bedrooms are each furnished to offer a different atmosphere, one in traditional Toile de Jouy, and are serviced by two well-appointed bathrooms. Step, if you dare, onto the wrap-around balcony and lift a crystal glass to the close-up view of the Arc de Triomphe and pinch yourself. This is Paris and it is at your feet.
To be on the Avenue Foch is to be in one of the world's smartest addresses – up there with Fifth Avenue in New York, London's Kensington Palace Gardens, Malabar Hill in Mumbai, LA's Rodeo Drive. But to be at the Etoile end of the great Haussmann boulevard that feeds, with its 11 sister avenues into the circular hub that marks the spiritual and logistical centre of the city is, well, divine. The Avenue Foch houses many of the capital's largest private palaces including principal residences of the Onassis and Rothschild families. Haussmann built his geometric city layout on ancient hunting trails that already met at Etoile, and to this day you can ride in from the Bois de Boulogne along the "allées cavalières". Here in the aristocratic "seizième" you have excellent shopping, restaurants and not far away culture too in the Palais de Tokyo and the Claude Monet/Marmottan Museum.
